Olney man arrested walking naked in town

Olney police arrested a local man after finding him walking naked and drunk down North Avenue E on Aug. 5 in the middle of the afternoon, Police Chief Dan Birbeck said. Dillan Thomas Leone, 33, was booked into Young County Jail on Aug. 5 on charges of indecent exposure and public intoxication, jail records show. He was being held in lieu of $2,500 bail, jail records show.

Mr. Thomas has been arrested in Young County six previous times since Nov. 30, 2021 for driving while intoxicated or public intoxication, jail records show. His latest DWI arrest occurred on June 2, jail records show.

Mr. Leone did not explain to officers why he was walking down the residential streets naked, Chief Birbeck said. He also appeared to have sustained an injury to his eye but did not elaborate about that either, Chief Birbeck said.

On June 2, Mr. Leone was arrested while operating a mini motorbike on a public roadway. “The initial traffic stop occurred due to Mr. Leone running a stop sign and driving on the wrong side of the roadway,” Chief Birbeck said. Upon further investigation, police suspected that he was intoxicated, he said. After conducting field sobriety tests, officers arrested him for DWI. Mr. Leone refused to submit to a blood draw, but there was sufficient probable cause for a judge to issue a warrant for the sample to be taken, Chief Birbeck said. He was subsequently transported to the Young County Jail.

The Olney Police Department emphasizes that while responsible drinking with a designated driver is acceptable, choosing to drive under the influence endangers not only your life but also the lives of others on the road, Chief Birbeck said.

“This is not a new warning, yet individuals continue to take risks with the safety of the public. The Olney Police Department enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding driving while intoxicated,” he said. “If more people had witnessed the tragic and needless deaths and injuries caused by intoxicated driving, they would share this perspective. In my view, driving while intoxicated is as reckless as picking up a gun and firing a random shot into a crowd.”
