OPD welcomes Officer Preston Scroggins to the beat
Olney’s newest police officer, Preston Scroggins, hit the beat on May 30 and was riding with Sgt. Dustin Hudson to get a feel for the town when the Olney Enterprise caught up with him at La Pasadita restaurant last week.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
Officer Scroggins: I grew up in Springtown, and this is my third police department. I was atf Reno, and prior to that, Pelican Bay. There are actually two Renos in Texas. The one I was from – the City of Reno – is less of a City than the actual Reno (Nevada). It is up there between Azle and Springtown. Landwise, Olney is bigger than Pelican Bay and probably has the same population as Reno but much smaller. Reno was about 16 square miles and more of a county than a city.
Q: What brings you to Olney?
A: I started on May 30. [The City] put the ad out and I applied. They told me they were running all kinds of crazy calls out here so I thought, ‘That sounds fun.’ I’ve only been here a week now and it’s much better than the places I have been.
Q: What do you like to do in your down time?
A: Springtown is still pretty country, so I go fishing, hunting, camping – the usual stuff that everyone else here does.
Q: Will you bring your family out to Olney?
A: We haven’t moved out here yet but we plan to in the next We haven’t moved out here yet - we plan to move out here in the next year or two. I have two kids and a wife. My kids are 12 and 2 years old.
