Olney man held on $1 mln bond in child sex case

A Young County judge set a $1 million bond for an Olney man arrested on June 2 on charges of promoting prostitution and the online solicitation of a minor under age 14, police and jail records show. The case is the latest of several ongoing investigations that the Olney Police Department has brought to District Attorney Dee Peavy and that are working their way through the 90th Judicial District Court.

Olney Police Chief Dan Birbeck cautioned that his department “treats crimes against children with the utmost seriousness.”

“We are dedicated to utilizing every resource at our disposal to investigate and prosecute those who target our children,” Chief Birbeck said. “The safety and well-being of our youngest community members are our highest priorities. Since 2020, this commitment has been evidenced by the numerous cases we have filed and successfully prosecuted in collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office. Rest assured, if the OPD uncovers any wrongdoing involving children, we will employ every available recourse to ensure justice for the victim.”

The incident described in a May 29 police affidavit allegedly took place on May 23-24 when the parents of a missing 13-yearold girl from Wichita Falls called Olney police to help them track her down. The girl’s parents had used a mobile phone app to trace the girl’s phone to the 1300 block of West Oak Street, and had heard a man’s name when they were talking to her on the phone, the affidavit said.

Olney police cross-referenced the man’s name to an Olney Housing Authority apartment that was in the general area that the app showed the phone to be, the affidavit said. Police found the girl unharmed inside the apartment, and interviewed her in the presence of her parents, the affidavit said.

Police learned that she had been chatting with an Olney man named “bigmikemike817” on Instagram and got a ride from him to the Oak Street apartment in Olney, the affidavit said. White at the apartment, she drank alcohol and smoked marijuana, and “mikemike” gave her some pills to take, the affidavit said.

She stated that “mikemike” drove a maroon Dodge truck, the affidavit said. Police seized her phone as evidence of possible drug and human trafficking, and received consent from the girl’s parents to search the phone, the affidavit said.

The men in the apartment stated that “mikemike” had dropped the girl off at the apartment and said he needed them to watch her for an hour and would be back to pick her up, the affidavit said. They identified “mikemike” as Jordan Michael Grayson, 30, and confirmed that he drove a maroon Dodge 1500 truck.

A search of the girl’s phone showed that Grayson and the girl began talking on May 23 at around 4:43 p.m. about “buying drugs such as marijuana, Xanax, shroom, and Hydros from Grayson,” the affidavit said.

“They Grayson tells her the drugs will be around $200-$250 and [the girl] texts, ‘What if I pay you in another way,’ Grayson replies and asks, ‘You sell nudes/or mess around because I have people ready to pay if you have any homegirls that are like that I’ll come get yall rn and take yall back and lmk asap/no disrespect im just asking,’” the affidavit said.

The girl replied, “Shi pu (meaning shit pull up.)” the affidavit said. The girl sent sexually explicit images of herself and her address, the affidavit said.

The girl then asked the ages of the men, and Grayson replied that they were two men in the age range of the men in the apartment where she was found, the affidavit said.

Based on the evidence found in the girl’s phone, police sought an arrest warrant and arrested Jordan on May 29. Previously, Mr. Grayson had been paroled on Jan. 14, 2021 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
