Smiling

Recently I thought of a plan to hopefully put some smiles on faces. I ordered 200 smiley face buttons, the kind that has a pin attached so you can attach it to a hat or clothing. My goal is to make smiling go viral in my little neck of the woods.

About 10 to 12 years ago I made the conscious decision to no longer be negative and to remove any negative people from my life. If you still put up with negative Nellies then you would be surprised just how wonderful your outlook on life could be by going positive and removing negativity.

I have always believed that negativity spreads like a virus and grows exponentially if left unchecked. Have you ever noticed when someone comes into work or into your little zone of life who is in a bad mood that it spreads?

Humans are meant to be empathetic to their fellow humans which normally is a good thing, but when that empathy is invaded by negativity it can transform your good day into a bad day and spread like wildfire. For example, your friend or co-worker starts complaining about how they got cut off by a car or any number of complaints we find ourselves saying or thinking I know what you mean and empathizing with them and before you know it transforms into a negative gripe session and when we walk away, we tend to take negativity with us to spread to others.

That’s what got me thinking about how I always try to smile at others even when things are not going so great, I try to be courteous, helpful or say something positive to those in passing. You never know what a simple smile to a person on the right day can do for them and turn their day around. It’s that simple and easy, smile to those you pass in the day, go further and offer a hug to those who will accept it. My favorite day of the week is Wednesday because it’s the day I deliver the paper and it also is a day of hugs for me, especially at the Cub Center where I know there will be at least 2 or 3 good hugs waiting along with plenty of smiles. Those hugs make my week and help get me through two very rough years, all without the people giving the hugs and smiles ever knowing just how much each one of them meant to me or how much they helped me get through the day, going home to an empty house every day is no fun even with two of the sweetest pups ever. I am blessed to have met my sweetheart Lori recently and no longer have to live life alone anymore. But that isn’t going to stop me from spreading positivity, happiness and smiles around every chance I get. So, if you get a smiley button from me, wear it proudly and let it remind you a smile to those in passing means more than you know.

This is Will B saying, turn that frown upside down and smile!
