The Love of a Mother

What can be said about mothers?

There are birth mothers, fostering mothers and adoptive mothers. There are even grandmothers who step in to fill the gap.

They are all gifts from God. Mothers are the stabilizers of the home. They are the teachers of life skills and Christian values—teaching by example.

Mothers send their children off each day with clean clothes, packed lunches, and homework completed. I see mothers following the activities and sports of several children all at the same time (oh my!). There are the mothers who actually teach the children in home schooling—and what a responsibility that is!

I have watched numerous families who fostered a child, and then adopted that child. I have watched those kids grow into wonderful individuals with the guidance and love of Christian parents. (I have one fostered/adopted great grandson. He is a delight!)

There is an amazing family with several children of their own. Yet, when there is a need they take in children who need temporary care. They seem to always have several extra children in their care…lucky children.

Words from a fostering/ adoptive parent: “There is nothing more heartbreaking and rewarding at the same time as having foster kids in your home…but we did, and it was harder than I imagined. After adopting 3, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

So what do you do when there is need for a safe place in the middle of the night? A small baby is placed in your arms to house and feed for an unknown length of time. It is a “calling” to take a small child into your home and not know the future. Fostering is a special gift that not everyone can do. Bless you.

One of the greatest compliments I ever had as a mother… A friend said to one of my daughters, “I thought you were an only child.” Daughter: “No, but my mother has a way of making me feel like an only child.”

Happy Mother’s Day!
