Newcastle FFA officers go to state

To start off the coming school year, the newly elected 2023-2024 Newcastle FFA chapter officers, Kamalani Duffield, Sentental: Kourtney Whitfield, Reporter: Elizabeth Daigle,Treasurer: Justice Johnson, Secretary:Sara May, Vice President: and Addison Riley, President attended the 95th annual State FFA Convention in Dallas, Texas.

Officers started off the week with a Texas FFA Day of Service, doing community service work at one of the many parks in Dallas. During a hard day of work, the officers made many new friends from other chapters across the state.

On Tuesday, officers made their way to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center where four of the six competed in the Ag Quiz Bowl contest. Even though they did not place, it was a very good experience for the team. While those four were competing, the other two attended a workshop and learned about Planning a Efficient Chapter POA. That afternoon, officers attended the first general session, hearing speeches by retiring state officers and guest speakers. Officers capped off the evening with a fun night attending a Josh Ward concert.

The following day, officers attended the 4 hours of business general session to pass and amend the Texas FFA Constitution. Cole Phillips and Grace Ogari received their Lone Star Degrees. The officers were busy working on their program of activities for the upcoming school year and did an escape room to work on team work and team bonding.

Thursday, the officers got to meet Temple Grandin, the renowned speaker and author, credited with paving the way for more humane animal handling. The officers watched a movie on Grandin that told the story of her autism and how that helped her to view animal behavior from a different perspective. Officers also got to watch the talent contest teams compete and dressed up for the theme, Country Comes to Town, for a fun night! Justice Johnson worked for Courtesy Corps, and during the fourth general session, she was backstage handing out awards and over $3 million worth of scholarships to FFA members. On the last day, the officers attended the fifth and final general session which included the installation of our new Texas FFA State officer team.
