Sr. Cub Center

After enduring self- isolation for over two weeks, I was so excited to get back to the Center to see my buddies. Now, I’ve never hated any bugs from my childhood to my present state, but after this quarantine I have a great disgust for those “bugs” that held me hostage for what seemed like ‘forever’! I was a victim, a stranger unaware of the plight that was in store for me. They sneakily entered my personal space and sneered in my face. Those rascals transformed my poor nose from a pale beige to a Rudolph tinted one and caused my stomach to utter sounds never before heard. They installed a faucet in my sinuses and turned the spigot on full force, even though they knew what a conservationist I am. It was a rebellion, a bold-faced attack on my persona ! I fought back; I armed myself with Vitamin C gummies, Calcium with Vitamin D, hot tea, soup, Gatorade, and cinnamon toast. I was ready !! They did win several skirmishes before my forces rallied and put an end to their evil desires to defeat me. I say a glad farewell to those bugs and their commander, General Covid!

My wonderful buddies kept close tabs on me with the calls and offers of help. How blessed I am ! On my first visit to the Center after moving to Olney four years ago, I knew I was “home” where I needed to be, and every day when I see those sweet smiling faces come though the door, I am overwhelmed with joy! People are social animals and need to be around their own species, SO...if you want that sociability, come on down Avenue B and become part of our pack !!

Tulips are busting out on the shelves, but it’s still too early to put them outside, so if you purchase some, enjoy those blossoms inside your house until the winter weather is past. Ahh! The thought of spring arriving soon does bring visions of trees covered with delightfully fragrant flowers and the hyacinths providing their intoxicating scents to delight both our eyes and noses. Ahh! Soon.

All seasons have their delights and enticements, but spring represents a time of rebirth, of joy and hope. But, until then enjoy the beauty that winter gives us. Beautiful flakes of symmetrically-shaped snow floating down so gracefully seems to calm anxious spirits and instill a feeling of peace. The playful antics of fog and the dimmed views it provides give us different perspectives on our surroundings and sometimes thrills us with unforseen visions of beauty. Enjoy where you are and don’t fret about the season. Contentment is a great feeling-- embrace it.
