Ann Ford becomes Interim County Clerk
Former Young County Clerk Ann Ford has been selected to fill her old job after Kay Hardin abruptly vacated the post on Jan. 9. County Commissioners met in executive session following Ms. Hardin’s retirement announcement, and asked Ms. Ford to come out of retirement to lead the County Clerk’s office for a second time.
She was sworn in by County Judge Win Graham at the Commissioners’ Jan. 23 meeting. Mrs. Ford began working for Young County in 1979 as a clerk for the Sheriff ’s Office. She held the County Clerk’s position from 1988-1990, then worked part-time in the 90th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and in the District Clerk’s office before retiring in 2012.
Mrs. Hardin retired after spending 30 years in the employ of Young County, working in the County Attorney and County Judge’s offices before running for County Clerk. She attributed her decision to retire in part to a long-running dispute with the Commissioners over her salary and a desire to travel and spend more time with her grandchildren. Ms. Ford was hired after an interview with the Commissioners Court.
