Meet the Cubs
Cubs boosters held “Cookies and Cocoa with the Cubs” on Jan. 3 to introduce the Olney High School girls and boys basketball teams and cheerleaders to their fans. Athletic Director Jody Guy presided over a three-pointer contest at the gym, then called the teams and cheerleaders out on the floor. “We do a Meet the Cubs at the beginning of the year for football and volleyball, and we really don’t do anything for our winter and our spring sports,” he said. “We decided, hey, let’s do the same thing we do for our fall sports. It brings attention to our kids, hopefully, and gets them excited because they are fixing to start District and we are trying to get in that mode.” Girls Athletic Coordinator Rhyan Daugherty said momentum from the Lady Cubs’ win at the recent Electra Tournament set them up well for District contests against a roster of tough competitors.
“The girls have really gotten into the culture and what we are trying to do, and that is to have a goal every day for yourself and become better,” he said. “You always seem to find really good coaches on the girls’ side … so you’re always facing really good teams and … trying to figure out how to win.”
