This lot was traded several times as a vacant lot. In 1925, W.J. Logan sold the lot to W.T. Clay for $400; in 1928 he sold the lot back to Logan’s widow, Dora E. Logan, for $395.98, and the paving lien may have been paid off at this time.

In 1930, Mrs. Logan sold the lot to W.F. Brazelton for $1,150; in 1948 Brazelton sold the lot to Clay Simmons (1912-1970) for $1,500.

Clay moved to Olney in 1926 from Clay County and in 1933 married Frances Waggoner (1914-1994). Clay was the manager of Parker’s grocery in Olney and their headquarters were in Wichita Falls and Parker Square in W.F. gets its name from the Parkers.

In 1950, Clay and his wife Frances executed a mechanic’s lien with P.L. Waynick in the amount of $13,084.77 to erect a brick veneer dwelling of one story with six rooms and a bath on the lot.

Of note is that Clay’s father-in-law was the manager of Morrison-Smith Lumber Company in Olney. The Simmons were the parents of one child - Frances Ann Simmons, who is Mrs. Dick Lindsay of Graham today.

In 1972 after Clay’s death, Frances conveyed the property to Ward and Luann Pendleton (1960-2007).

Ward was an ag teacher in Olney and Newcastle and then the school superintendent in Newcastle. Afterward, he was at Region IX for thirty years.

Luann worked in the OISD business office for thirty years. Ward and Luann had two boys and one girl - Jeff Tim, and Vickie. Jeff died in an auto accident and Vickie resides in Care Center.

Timothy served as executor of the estate after Luann’s death and conveyed the house to Julie N. Pendleton who remains the owner.
