Dancing Stars of Olney Fundraiser

The Olney Community Library & Arts Center is calling for two or three more teams of dancers to round out the roster for its Dancing Stars of Olney 2022 fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Main Room.

The OCLAC board of trustees envisioned 6-8 teams from local businesses competing for fund-raising honors and a chance to take home a glittery mirror ball trophy. The contest so far has drawn five teams so the trustees decided at their Aug. 16 meeting to open up the contest to members of the public.

Funds raised by dancers before and during the contest will go toward helping the library make needed repairs to the building’s drainage system and foundation and bring its restrooms into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements The restroom project “was derailed when COVID moved through in 2020,” the board said in a statement. “As you know, prices of just about everything have risen to the point that we no longer have the funds to move forward with this large construction project. Since 2020, we have also had landscaping issues arise in the back of the library that we must fix in order to move forward.”

To put these projects on track, OCLAC invites the public to support the dance competition by buying tickets to the Fiesta Dinner at the Main Room, and donating to the dance teams. The competition will be spread throughout the evening, allowing dinner attendees to dance between contestants, the board said.

David Molina will be at the Civic Center, Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. teaching line dances and other fun dances for anyone wanting to brush up on their dancing skills before the Danc- ing Stars of Olney event on Friday, Sept. 23. Donations to the Olney Community Library will be taken at the door.
