Remembering

Ever sit back and scroll through memories? I was sitting on the porch the other day having a cup of joe and just recollecting about when I was just knee high to a grasshopper and it was like I was transported through time. I always find it so weird but also astonishing the way the human mind works when it comes to memories.

Music has a way of locking in those memories and I have spoken on that previously. It’s one of my favorite ways to relive memories, but time in memories is something altogether different. My earliest memory, if I remember correctly, I used to ride a lawn tractor with my papa or an uncle. That part is fuzzy, I believe I was maybe 4 or 5 years old, I distinctly remember doing this multiple times and it was one of my favorite things to do. I was looking at the grass at in the yard and I assume this triggered that memory but as I thought about the brief memories in my mind’s eye I was transported back through time and space to a summer long ago, the warm summer breeze blowing through my hair, the security I felt sitting on my papa’s lap as he pretended to let me start the mower, it being hotter than a goat’s butt in a pepper patch. When we drove under the trees, the feeling of the shade was like brief moment of pure bliss. What kind of memories do you look back on fondly? Do these memories transport you to better times?

They say time is relative and I really believe this. Using our memories, we briefly travel back in time. With our imaginations, we can travel anywhere into any time and time seems to slow down or speed up during certain activities. Think back to your first kiss. Wow, didn’t it seems like it lasted forever? But it most likely only lasted a split second. Or think of summers as a kid. Summer seemed to last forever, one minute then the next it was time to start school again. Being in a car crash - time for me went in slow motion. As adults, we find that our weekend begins and in the blink of an eye it’s Monday again. You can’t tell me this isn’t true. Ha!

Time is a man-made construct and God does not work on this construct or think of it like this. God’s time is different from man’s time, if that is any easier. God has a plan for all of those who believe in him and put their trust in him. God is perfect and so are his plans for us, which means his time for his plan for us may not always be when we think or want it to be. We just have to make the time to pray and sit back and enjoy the ride with all of its ups and downs, and before you know it, God will do what is right in our lives according to his perfect plan for our lives. This is Will B saying, take time travel down memory lane and let God worry about the big stuff.
