Texoma Gives Spotlight: Olney Senior Cub Center
The Young County Senior Cub Center plays an important role in Olney by supplying nutritious meals for seniors through the Meals on Wheels program and by serving affordable hot lunches at the Center. The meals and fellowship served at the Center are not only for seniors but for anyone who needs healthy and affordable lunches and a place to visit with other community members.
The Center is gearing up for Texoma Gives, is a 16-hour, online giving event organized by the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation to boost philanthropy in the 24-county area in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Texoma Gives kicks off on September 8, when community members are invited to donate to their favorite local charities through www. texomagives.org.
The minimum donation is $10 and there is no maximum donation, according to the Texoma Gives website.
“We are planning on having special activities and door prizes (during the Texoma Gives Event),” Angela Lockard, director of the Cub Center, said. “We encourage the community to come down and join us for lunch and activities. We will have online giving, which is from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., all the proceeds go to benefit the Cub Center and the people that we take care of in the community.”
Ms. Lockard said donations will go toward operational expenses, including the Meals on Wheels program and other programs that serve the community. The Center will provide donuts and coffee for the early birds, starting at 8 a.m., as well as lunch, bingo with prizes and other activities later in the day.
The Cub Center is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Lunch is served at noon, with a suggested donation of $4 for those over 60 years, and $6 for everyone else. The Cub Center is located at 302 South Ave B in Olney.
