Olney Senior Cub Center Chats

It’s grandbabies week for this Mi-Mommy. The Colorado scenery is breathtakingly beautiful, and the temperatures are refreshingly cool. I am totally happy about missing those triple-digit days we’ve been having in Olney, but I do miss my buddies at the Cub Center. But, first I want to soak in as much as I can of the delights Colorado has to offer before returning home.

If you’ve never seen a mountain bluebird you have missed a visual treat. True to their name, they are very blue! When the sun’s rays bounce off them they are a dazzling sight. Not only did I see one, I saw them every day! I am one happy gal! One such beauty landed on the porch table just inches from me; apparently he was searching for the crumbs left by the kids’ snack time. And he got his reward!

A few hours were spent sitting on my son’s wrap-around deck watching those little dynamos of the sky, those delightful hummingbirds! Several species visited the drinking depot hanging just a few feet from me. It turned out to be a dangerous place to be. One little hummer looked like he was made of spun gold as he frequently visited to drink the sweet nectar. Such a radiant little bundle of energy; seems that he had claimed the feeder for his exclusive use. He would fight off and chase several intruders at a time. Unfortunately for me, those chases often whizzed by just inches from my head! After a couple of those encounters, I decided to move my observation post a bit farther away.

I am not bragging, just reporting the facts here. I drove the last hour of my trip to CO in the most delightful downpours, those gifts from the billowing clouds hugging the mountains! Those evening mountain showers have been quite a shock to this set of eyes, but are such delights. Hopefully I can bring some of that moisture back with me!

Thankfully, several people have volunteered to cover for me at the Center. Edwana Fikes and Barbara Walker graciously accepted the role so everybody entering our doors will be greeted by one or both of these wonderful ladies. Happy eating at the Center!

One drawback to my trip: gasoline prices are $1 more per gallon here! I guess beauty is expensive! And visiting these six grands is priceless! I am definitely the winner!

Every day, deer stroll by to the delight of my grands. They all rush to the window to get a glimpse. Not long ago a deer gave birth in their backyard, much to the delight and amazement of kids and parents. Nature provides so much pleasure to our senses; I encourage you to be ever enjoying those pleasures with family and friends.
