Wisdom Lived Out

As the Apostle Paul sits in prison in Rome, he pens a marvelous letter to strengthen the believers in the church of Colossae. He understands that each day the children of God are immersed in a culture filled with sinful activities and are constantly influenced by those who indulge themselves in lustful passions. So, it is crucial that by God’s grace they withstand the fiery arrows of the evil one, not yielding to the temptations that so easily entangle them. For, they were bought with a high price, that is the blood of Christ, and their life is not their own. Paul’s concern is that the gospel would not become tainted in the eyes of the lost by the weakness of those who are babes in the faith. So, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he commands them, “Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.” They must understand they are now ambassadors of truth. That they are called to hold forth the mystery of God’s revelation of Himself to the world that is only found in His Son, Jesus Christ. Yes, this small church, which was once lost in darkness, was called to herald the greatest message this world has ever known, and that is, there is salvation found in no one, but in Jesus Christ, the Lord.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, we must hold dear the cross of our salvation. Today, let this verse run deep into your heart, for the knowledge of God leads to wisdom, which is lived out in the lives of believers through obedience. As a result, we become the reflection of God’s glory to all whom we encounter. James, the leader of the early church of Jerusalem, tells us that faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. Therefore, by God’s grace may we heed the Apostles’ command and become completely occupied with the word of God, which in return will lead to a lifestyle of obedience that glorifies The Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter informs us that God Himself, by the work of the Holy Spirit, has granted to all Christians the power to live a life of godliness. Christian, living a life of purity in our culture is a daunting task that cannot be taken lightly. Many who are outside the Christian faith have put a magnifying glass upon the lives of Christians, so they can be quick to mock and try to disprove the changing power wrought in those Who have trusted in Christ. Therefore, let us as obedient children put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as for our helmet, the hope of our salvation, and go to war against sin that wants to destroy the church of the living God. Again, I say, let us fix our eyes on the Author of life so that we may walk in the wisdom of God, making the most of every opportunity. May God’s grace be with you, beloved.

“Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.”

Colossians 4:5 NASBS

“Many who are outside the Christian faith have put a magnifying glass upon the lives of Christians, so they can be quick to mock and try to disprove the changing power wrought in those Who have trusted in Christ. ”
