An Update from State Senator Drew Springer
Hello Friends,
As the first month of summer winds down and you are doing your best to keep the kids busy and keep yourself cool and hydrated, I hope you find some quality time to enjoy with family and friends.
The Legislature continues to work and last week was a good but busy week in Austin. The Texas Sunset Commission, of which I am a member, met on Wednesday and made decisions to improve the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, Texas Water Development Board, and the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) Advisory Committee. State Soil and Water Conservation Board oversees the dam program and is very important to those close to reservoirs or downstream, which encompasses most of us in SD 30.
I made specific recommendations regarding the Texas Water Development Board to enhance the agency’s focus on rural communities that desperately need infrastructure upgrades and improvements. I am happy to say these recommendations were adopted unanimously by Sunset Commission members.
Last week, the Senate Special Committee to Protect All Texans convened for two hearings to investigate what happened in Uvalde and. While I do not serve on this committee, my staff and I have been monitoring the hearings closely, and I look forward to working with my fellow senators to determine what we can do to protect all Texans from crime and violence. If you are interested in watching the hearings, you view the archived video here: https://senate.texas.gov/ av-archive.php.
As Summer progresses and we prepare for the school year and our upcoming Session in 2023, I always appreciate hearing from North Texas, especially the people of our district.
Please let me know what is going well and where the State of Texas can improve to make life better and safer for all of us. Please know that my office is here to assist when needed. If you ever find yourself in Austin, please come by for a visit and see.
