MSU honors Marquez & Widner

Midwestern State University (MSU) honored two Olney-ites at the annual Honors Recognition Banquet April 22 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls.

MSU staff presented leadership awards to Fatima Marquez, Olney High School Class of 2021 graduate, selected as “Outstanding Sophomore Woman,” and Megan Widner, a longtime Olney resident, was honored with the prestigious “Woman of the Year” award.

Ironically, Widner and Marquez attend the same church in Olney, which made celebrating the award “even more special,” Widner explained.

Also, the Hardin Foundation presented an award and a $3,000 scholarship to the Hardin and Clark Scholars.

The 2022 Hardin Scholar was Zetta Noelle Cannedy (a political science student and member of the Redwine Honors Program and Student Government Association). The Hardin Scholar is the highest award at MSU that began in 19*62 by the Hardin Foundation.

The 2022 Clark Scholar was Andres Christopher Revis (a political science and global studies student on the president’s Honor Roll). The Clark award was established in 1976 in honor of E.B. Clark, a former MSU Foundation trustee. Revis received an award along with a $1500 scholarship.

The finalists for the Hardin Scholar were Colin Brady Nelson and Brittany Nicole Roberts. Finalists for the Clark Scholar were Holly Rene Ferguson, Yoseph Mahmoud Helal, Kierra Tai Hicks, Elizabeth Janelle Horn and Carla Ariel Parra. Congrats, Fatima and Megan, on a job well done.
