Watching the World Go By
My daughter’s cat, Mohawk, can be seen daily sitting between the window and the blinds…just watching the world go by. He watches cars go by and can see anyone who walks or drives up the driveway. He lives in a very safe and pampered world.
My yard cat lives a completely different life. She is well fed and hides out a lot during the night hours. During the day, she watches her world go by as she sits high in the back of the pickup. She does not have to catch a bird or mouse to survive. She also lives a pretty pampered life.
The yard cat is spoiled, and she doesn’t like any other cats to come around. There was a cute kitten that showed up one day. (This happens in the country sometimes.) It was sweet and not knowing where it had come from, I thought I would keep it to raise. Well, my cat would NOT have it. I was having to keep them completely separated. I saw that I could not raise it safely and checked with several people while trying to find the kitten a new home. Thankfully, I found a good country home for it.
As Americans, we have also lived a pampered life. It has been an easy and safe life during my lifetime. We watched our world go by with the perfect TV family life of “Father Knows Best,” and the greatest comedies of all times, of course, were “I Love Lucy” and the “Carol Burnett Show.” And I cannot leave out the silliness of “Hee Haw.” We watched the no nonsense news of Walter Cronkite and Huntley-Brinkley. Our world was near perfect.
Living in America has been an easy and safe life for so many years. Despite wars and rumors of wars, my generation has lived in the best of times in all of history. Even in America, our less privileged are wealthy compared to third world standards.
At this time in history, we don’t know how long America will be able to keep our standard of abundance and freedom. Keep praying for America!
Joke of the day: This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house and told my dog. We laughted a lot. Source: AARP Bulletin “Whitty & Wise”
