FUMC holds hamburger fundraiser to benefit youth mission trip

The First United Methodist Youth Group held a local hamburger fundraiser Sunday, March 27, to raise money for their annual mission trip to Utopia. Twenty-five children, ages 14-19, worked from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to serve the community 243 hamburgers raising more than $5,000.

The fundraiser was by-donation-only, meaning that the hamburgers were free to the local townspeople.

“We are so grateful to the whole community for coming out and supporting us,” said Youth Director Valorie Mahler. “The community overwhelms us each year with their giving and generosity.”

The funds will go directly toward the Youth Church’s mission trip to Utopia. In Utopia, the youth usually help with yard cleaning, painting, school work, and other activities around the town.

“When we visit Utopia, we talk with the local church and scope out projects at homes and the school,” Mahler said. “As well as helping out the local community in Utopia, we also have some fun.”

The youth will also get the chance to visit Garner State Park, float on the Frio River and do other fun activities. The trip will take place this year from July 18-21.

The FUMC Youth Church would like to thank everyone who supported our Utopia Mission Trip Hamburger Fundraiser! We’re overwhelmed and humbled by the generous donations that were beyond our hopes and imaginations.
