Newcastle Volunteer Fire Dept. is hosting the annual fish fry fundraiser May 7

It’s back, folks! The much-anticipated fish fry fundraiser hosted by the Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) Saturday, May 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Newcastle Fire Hall.

The volunteer firefighters join together to fry catfish just the way we like it, and they serve the fish with all the trimmings. The price has remained the same throughout the past few years. Adults eat for a $10 donation, children 12 and younger eat for a $5 donation, and children three and younger eat for free.

This year, there will be a live auction following the meal. During the meal, guests are allowed to view the auction items set up in the dining hall.

This annual fundraising endeavor was created to help not only firefighters but all first responders in Young County. The proceeds will remain in Newcastle to pay for radios, uniforms and building repairs or upgrades.

The NVFD Chief Gary Bohannan previously stated that the NVFD firefighters took control of the annual fundraiser a few years ago to help with maintaining the fire hall.

“The County helps us out when they can, but we still need other resources to keep it going, especially during a big fire season,” Bohannan said.

Event organizer Teresa Jones said, “It’s a community effort to host the fish fry fundraiser and auction. We love visiting with the community, and we are grateful for the support we receive every year. We hope to have a good turnout this year.”

Consider driving to Newcastle May 7 to show your support for the men and women who risk their lives every year to ensure our safety.
