March is noted for erratic weather, but it rolled in quite peaceably this year. Don’t get your hopes up for a calm and soothing transition from winter to spring. Windy gusts and temperatures usually play hide and seek all month long - up and down. This month spring will officially be acknowledged, St. Patrick’s Day pops in for a bit of fun, and Easter will give us pause to consider our fate and reflect on our faith. The kids look forward to scrambling about in search of those brightly colored eggs to fill their baskets, with the hope of finding the prize egg. Don’t forget that March is the lamb-lion month, so batten down the hatches!
We’ve all heard that April showers bring May flowers, but we would really like for those showers to begin in March. Farmers and ranchers are especially hopeful for rain to fill their stock tanks and to coax those seeds to sprout and grow. As Edward Furr put it, “ It is no fun to haul water!” Actually, he used the word “ain’t” for emphasis. Let’s pray for rain!
It’s about time to move our clocks UP an hour, or as the saying goes,
“Spring forward!” Sunday morning Bible classes may be a bit empty if we forget.
The center hosted the retired teachers meeting on March 1st. At the end of their local and district agendas, they had a Show and Tell time for members to share things old and unique - a fun and informative activity, indeed!
That ice and snow we had lately gave a few of our meal deliverers a tumble, but nothing serious, so we are very thankful for that. Unfortunately, Linda Phillips, one of our office workers, suffered an injury to her spine the first of last week and is hospitalized in Wichita Falls. While helping her son into her pickup, she got bumped and fell, which broke a vertebra in her lower back. Please keep her in your prayers. Reports said that she would be hospitalized for quite a while. May she heal quickly! She is sorely missed here at Cub Center!
We will host Vietnam veterans on March 29th to honor them for their service. We are always happy to share our building and accommodations with veteran groups and other worthwhile causes.
A big “Thank you” to the workers who came and repaired our driveway into the parking lot. A call to City Hall with a request for help, and “poof,” it was done! Again, thank you for responding so quickly and efficiently, and our cars are also thankful. Well done!
A new face came to eat with us on March 3. A delightful lady named Audry Haynes just moved to Olney and sought us out. Her son, Bob, escorted her in and stayed and visited until she had finished eating. Thanks to Wendell Flanders for telling them about our Center! Audry will certainly make a wonderful addition to our family here.
Okay, it’s time to dust off those hummingbird feeders and get them ready! Those little jewels of the sky will soon be sending scouts out to find accommodations for their upcoming migration and we need to show them how hospitable we Texans are!
Have a super-duper week and remember to always be kind.
Linda Phillips is in a rehab facility in Wichita Falls now. She is wearing a brace and can walk, although she is in pain still.
Please continue to support her with love and kindness during this trying time for her and her family.
