OHS students inducted into National Honor Society

On Feb. 28, Olney High School held an induction ceremony for the students who have been working hard since the 10th grade to maintain the four basic requirements for membership: scholarship, leadership, service and character, along with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average.

The process for the student involves applying through the local school chapter and, once receiving the guidelines, begin working toward the end goal of completing the requirements. According to the National Honor Society’s website, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.), In regard to service, it involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation. Next, leadership involves student leaders who are resourceful, good problem solvers and idea contributors.

And finally, character, which entails “being cooperative, demonstrating high standards of honesty and reliability and showing courtesy, concern and respect for others; and generally, maintains a clean disciplinary record,” as stated on the website.
