Celebrating National Women’s History Month
To me, the most important women of history are moms. Who can deny that? Moms are more like superheroes then many historic figures throughout history (although I am sure there are plenty historically famous women who have been moms.)
In my opinion, the best mom is the housewife mom. They sacrificed almost everything for a job that comes with lots of love and gratitude, but will most assuredly not come with any sort notoriety, fame or historical remembrance to say the least.
How can we celebrate National Women’s History Month without celebrating the moms? I am most definitely not taking away any props for the mothers (single or married) who work while also taking care of the home. They too are a special breed of strong women who get it done.
The typical housewife mom is a nurse, counselor, preacher, coach, chef, house cleaner, lawn service and a teacher - just to name a few off a list too long to write.
I lost my mom over 20 years ago, but the time I had with her will forever always hold a special place in my heart. You can always count on your mom to know when you need a kick in the pants, tough love or a loving embrace. My mom lived in Florida most my life, but I could always call her and talk about anything. She had the best advice, even if I didn’t want to hear it.
When my mom moved back to Texas, we use to take trips together to different museums and art galleries. She was the only one I knew (excluding family) who liked those sorts of places. We enjoyed long talks, we shared a love of Pepsi and we both loved Italian food. I gained my love for cooking from my mom. One of my favorite things to this day is to cook using her recipes. One thing my mom was good at was not coddling us kids. She would give a hug and show love, but when it came to holding us accountable or showing tough love, she was great at it.
So, as we celebrate National Women’s History month, let us not forget all the moms out there who may not make the history books but had sacrificed everything just to make a home for their family.
This is Will B. saying, I love and miss you mom!
