HD 68 Candidate David Spiller

Jacksboro Attorney David Spiller has entered the race for the District 68 House seat. Spiller is a lifelong resident of Jacksboro and has been the City Attorney in Jacksboro for 33 years, General Counsel for the Jack County Hospital District for 30 years, and has now been on the school board for 26 years.

“What differentiates me is that I feel that I have the experience. I am not a politician. I just feel the need to serve and feel that I am qualified because of my experience—I advocate for a living every day, and I have knowledge in every aspect of local government, including county work,” Spiller said.

Spiller states that he has been involved with everything from the county, city, school and hospital— which Spiller defined as the primary local government functions. “I understand the problems, and I understand the challenges of rural health care, hospitals and schools,” Spiller added. He went on to say that his accessibility with his clients will be able to translate into a strength as a representative going forward. “You have to be able to stay in touch with people. I am going to be accessible; I will be where you are able to find me and you won’t have to travel a long distance,” Spiller said.

Spiller says he feels obligated and compelled to run for House District 68. “I am a rural conservative, and we are at war. We are outnumbered by urban legislators 4 to 1. We have lost our voice in many respects on the legislative level in Austin to urban legislators, and I think we need an effective advocate for that. Someone who can be an effective advocate for rural Texas,” Spiller said. He goes on to add that redistricting is the biggest issue that our district is facing. Stating that the concerns in urban Texas, are not the same concerns that we face in rural Texas, and that we need to make sure that we do not redistrict into a larger district.

The Jacksboro attorney stated that for the people that do not know him, they need to know that he is someone they can trust. “They need to know that I am equipped to do the job—that I am experienced, that I will do what I say I am going to do,” Spiller added.

He went on to say that “life is about relationships and if I have a relationship with someone, they know that they can count on me, they know that they can trust me, know they can call me, meet with me, and that I will do everything in my power, to fix a problem.”

Spiller wants voters to know that he will be a strong conservative voice in the Texas Legislature, and will fight to protect the right to life, our 2nd amendment, our rural hospitals and schools--as well as being able to improve the broadband in rural areas, and defend water and property rights. Spiller states that he will also be a “strong voice against tax increases” for Texans that are already suffering.

David Spiller and his wife of 33 years, Ginger, live in Jacksboro and are members of First Baptist Church Jacksboro. They have two sons that both work as attorneys at David’s law firm, Spiller & Spiller.
