Obituary: Carla McKinney Ochs

Our dear Carla passed away July 15, 2020 in Dallas, Texas.

She was born September 11, 1947, the second of four daughters to Carlton McKinney and Marjorie Cowan McKinney of Archer City, and Dallas, Texas. She was the grand-daughter of pioneer doctor, Dr. Hugh Carlton McKinney and Ruby Cornelia Elliston McKinney, of Olney, Texas. She was the great grand-daughter of Texas ranch settlers and oil industry pioneers, Samuel Mitchell Cowan Sr. and Allie Chick Cowan of Archer County, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her adoring parents and her high-school sweetheart, James Connor Ochs, Jr. in 2015. The Ochs family are third generation members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dallas, Texas. She is survived by daughter, Allie; son and daughter-in-law, Connor and Megan Ochs; grandson, Aiden; granddaughter Georgia; her sisters Beatrice McKinney; Claudia M. Humphrey (Layton A.); Kathy Friedman (Samuel); and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.

Carla was raised in Dallas and spent many family holidays and summers on the family ranch, McKinney Ranch in Archer City, Texas. She graduated from The Hockaday School class of 1967, Mount Vernon Junior College class of 1969, and American University class of 1971, B.S. in Sociology in Washington, D.C.

Carla devoted her life to those in need. She was honored by the Texas Council on Family Violence Board of Directors for over 25 years of volunteerism as manager of the Family Place Store. All proceeds provide shelter, clothing, counseling and skills for victims of family violence.

Carla was a gourmet cook, lover of music and a fabulous storyteller whose infectious smile and twinkle in her eye entertained her family and friends endlessly.
