Olney Elementary School’s newest addition this coming school year will be first-grade teacher Misty Hackley who comes to Olney from the Electra Independent School District where she taught third grade. Hackley is one of 19 new teachers and staff members joining the Olney Independent School District for the 2022-2023 school year.
Staff members at all three Olney Independent School District campuses will be trained to carry concealed handguns in the coming school year, and the district already has adopted most safety measures recommended by local law enforcement and state education officials, Superintendent Dr Greg Roach said.
Enrollment at Olney Independent School District is expected to rise by as many as 25 students in the coming school year, as school officials tout the district’s high academic rankings in regional TV ads.
The OHS Class of 1962 had a reunion coinciding with the Olney in America celebration June 30. Our homebase was the Hometown Coffee and Tea where we ate a great lunch and scanned through yearbooks and scrapbooks. We then set off for a tour of Main Street.
A divided Young County Commissioners Court voted 3-2 to spend about $4,000 to fix broken water pipes in the vacant Old Jail while historians come up with a plan to utilize the 101-year-old state historic landmark in Graham’s town square.
