The Atrium at Olney Hamilton Hospital, the gift shop operated by the OHH Auxiliary, celebrates its 10th anniversary and continues to be run entirely by volunteers. The gift shop opened on July 15, 2013 after months of hard work and help from community members including Anita Palmer and Carla Perry, Auxiliary President Phyllis Whitsett recalled recently.
Gov. Greg Abbott tried to stave off a slew of lawsuits that could delay the implementation of voter-approved constitutional amendments such as higher retirement pay for teachers and property tax relief – by arguing that the lawsuits were served too late to be a legitimate challenge to the results of the Nov. 7 special election.
An Olney man pleaded guilty to burglary and drug charges in exchange for a six-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, jail records showed. Alton Everett Smith III, 35, a registered sex offender, was arrested multiple times on burglary and drug possession charges in Olney and Graham, jail records showed. He was being held on more than $90,000 bond.
A 27-year-old Olney woman was arrested on a charge of criminally negligent homicide in the death of her eight-monthold child in a local recreational vehicle park in March. Olney police were called to 104 E. Springcreek Rd. on March 29 to assist with an unresponsive child, according to a press release by the Texas Department of Public Safety and OPD.
County Commissioners accepted a bid by a Bridgeport construction company to finish out the County Annex that will house several County departments. The approximately $911,000 cost of the project came from federal COVID funds. It will take about 230 days to finish the project, according to the County’s contract with Mann Made Construction.
