Olney Chamber of Commerce

The Olney Chamber of Commerce strives to promote and meet the needs of business and industry and to create the best community in which to live, work, and do business. The organization serves its members and the larger community by cultivating an environment that promotes economic growth. In 2022, the Chamber saw an increase in memberships and very positive feedback from the community. The organization, comprised of one staff member, Executive Director Deidre Brown, and nine board members met together monthly to plan, discuss and take action when necessary to accomplish their goals. The board of directors voted in the December meeting to bring Sonja Grey on to serve for the next year in place of board President Anna Rogers. Rogers will be missed and played a crucial role in re-structuring the Chamber membership opportunities, as well as helping in the transition of directors of the organization.

House of Mercy

The House of Mercy served more than 100 people recovering from addiction in 2022. We have had 10 people graduate this year from a one-year program. House of Mercy Enterprises supplied the bounce house for the Stars and Cars Auto show in Graham. HOME also supplied the bounce house for “Unity in the Community” in Wichita Falls, an event that brought together area addiction recovery programs. We had a graduate speak at the First United Methodist Church of Olney, the First Baptist Church of Olney, and Horizon Country Church. We held our annual Gala on Sept. 26. We have hosted a few BINGO fundraisers. We have had two yard sale fundraisers this year. We made tamales for our Texoma Gives fundraiser. We have tried to keep the rose bushes taken care of throughout the year, mowed city lots and helped clean up a few local lots around town.

Larimore hands art show proceeds to KOB

Olney artist Barbara Larimore handed proceeds from her art show, “Experiencing Europe,” to Kyle Turner, President of Keep Olney Beautiful. The exhibition at the Olney Heritage Museum netted $1,720 in sales and contributions. Mrs. Larimore put on a well-attended exhibition of 22 canvases and six photographs inspired by her travels to Europe and included 2 of the Texas Hill Country on Dec. 8, promising to benefit KOB. The civic group has been tasked with replacing the 70-year-old municipal swimming pool, which was closed permanently last summer because of structural problems.
