Who Is Running in May 2 City Elections?
The candidate filing period for the May 2 municipal elections in Olney closed last week, with contested races shaping up for city and school leadership while the Olney Hamilton Hospital board races may be decided without ballots.
Six candidates are seeking two at-large seats on the Olney City Council: incumbent Terri Wipperman, former council member Tommy Kimbro, Olney Economic Development Corporation board member and business owner Jackie Voyles, Tower Extrusions Production Supervisor Colson Ballard, auto mechanic Steven Kinyk and business owner Sammy Livingston. With all council seats elected at-large, the top two vote-get- Rue Rogers is run unopposed for mayor.
At Olney ISD, former Keep Olney Beautiful president and Air Tractor executive Kyle Turner and parent Jeromy Johnson have filed for Place 6, creating the lone contested school race. Incumbent Kelly Mahler filed for Place 7. Other trustees are running unopposed, and the district may cancel those elections if no opposition materializes.
Five inicumbent candidates — Rita Choat, Lyndsey Miller, Carl Craig, Kathrine Smith and Ron Roger — will run again for their seats on the Olney Hamilton Hospital board of directors.
T he OHH board, which meets Friday, may cancel the election because of the lack of opposition candidates.
