Troy Holt sentenced to 25 years
An Olney man was sentenced to 25 years in prison June 8 after a jury in Graham found him guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an attack on his longtime partner, an Olney woman.
The victim testified before Judge Stephen Bristow that Troy Holt punched her in the face, pushed her to the bathroom floor and attempted to ram a toilet plunger handle down her throat.
Holt, 53, will not be eligible for parole until he has served half of his sentence with no allowance for good conduct time, District Attorney Dee Peavy.
During the twoday trial, Peavy called five witnesses, including the victim, her son, her sister, the investigating officer, and a nurse from Olney Hamilton Hospital who treated the victim.
Holt testified on his own behalf and called no witnesses. After the jury found him guilty, Holt accepted a 25-year prison term from Bristow rather than letting the jury choose his punishment, which could have reached 99 years because of two prior convictions.
