Throckmorton rancher named Cattlemen’s Assn Advocate of the Year

Sixth-generation cattle rancher Tucker Brown was named the 2022 Advocate of the Year by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, thanks to his “creative storytelling” about his family’s life and legacy at the R.A. Brown Ranch in Throckmorton County. Mr. Brown received the award at the NCBA Convention in New Orleans on Feb. 1.

The R.A. Brown Ranch has raised cattle and Quarter Horses since 1895. Through a merging of the Brown, Donnell, and Thomas family ranchlands, the R.A. Brown Ranch has one of the biggest, most sought after bull sales in the country, selling about 800 bulls a year, Mr. Brown said. It is located on County Road 112 about 40 miles southwest of Olney.

In addition to hosting “The Tucker Brown Show” on 97.1 KVRP, Mr. Brown posts professional-quality photos and videos of the intricacies of raising cattle and horses alongside kids in West Texas - often with a humorous or spiritual message - on his Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok channels.

The posts reach a combined 5-6 million viewers per month on Instagram and TikTok – allowing Mr. Brown to use his influence to spread the word about beef. He also recently agreed to bring his behind-thescenes ranching content to the Texas Beef Council’s “Beef Loving Texans” social channels this year, the NCBA said.

“Our goal is if we can help consumers understand where their food comes from, they will have a deeper sense of trust,” Mr. Brown said.

In 2013, R.A. “Rob” Brown Jr. and his wife Peggy Donnell Brown handed the reins to the ranch to their four children, Betsy Bellah,Rob A. Brown, Marianne McCartney and Donnell Brown Tucker Brown is the oldest son of Donnell Brown.

Mr. Brown said along with sharing beef facts and ranching stories, he strives to bring youth into the industry. The Brown family offers six internships each year in which college-age kids, ages 20-25, can live and work on the Ranch for four to seven months. When he’s not at work on the ranch, Brown can often be found behind the mic broadcasting a football game, a rodeo, or speaking at an event.
