Texas legislators respond to the death of billionaire and philanthropist Ross Perot, 89

Texas billionaire and philanthropist Ross Perot dies in Dallas Tx on July 9 after battling with leukemia. A few of Perot’s career highlights include:

- Served in the U.S. Navy

- Advocate for Vietnam Vets

- Worked in Sales at IBM

- Founder of Electronic Data Systems in 1962 (Dallas, Texas) and later sold a controlling interest to General Motors for $2.4 billion in 1984

- Founder of Perot Systems Corp in 1988 (Plano, Texas)

- Engaged in his first run for President of the U.S. in 1992 then again in 1996 establishing the Reform Party

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) commented on Perot’s death, “Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to Ross Perot. In his 89 years on earth, he lived the American dream to the fullest. Ross is a Texas legend.  He will be remembered as an outstanding entrepreneur, philanthropist,  and dedicated husband and father. A fierce patriot, Ross fought for what he believed in, and his national grassroots movement changed politics forever. Heidi and I send our heartfelt prayers and condolences to his wife Margot and the entire Perot family as they grieve the loss of a loving husband, father, and grandfather. May he rest in peace.”
