Team Marion: More Than Just Business

When traveling around Olney, you will see their “For Sale” signs in many yards. Perhaps you have visited one of the homes they have renovated. More than likely, you have used the only car wash in Olney at least once. Derrell and Cathy Marion are the owners of Marion Realty and Olney Car Wash, located at 1406 W. Main St. in Olney.

The Marions have put their stamp on Olney, and as local entrepreneurs, they appreciate their customers and aspire to provide stellar service to their clients.

Their 53-year marriage has made the transition to the workplace smooth. The husband and wife team work together to run their businesses’ day-to-day operations, with Mrs. Marion handling all business matters for the real estate company and Mr. Marion managing the car wash.

Before spending most of their time in their current busi-nesses, the couple built custom homes and renovated homes to flip. Mr. Marion is a custom builder with more than 40 years of experience. Mrs. Marion focused on the décor and the sales, having 35 years of experience in real estate. She has been a broker for 33 of the 35 years. Overall, business has been good for the Marions, and the Coronavirus has not impacted operations significantly.

“During the last four years, my real estate business has been amazing. I have sold between 20 and 30 homes in the past year,” Mrs. Marion said.

Although many people in the community know the Marions, everyone may not realize that Mr. Marion is a pastor of a church located 30 miles outside of Olney.

The couple has lived in Young County since 1995 and moved to Olney in 2008. They have two sons and one daughter. Their oldest son is Rance and he recently retired from the City of Austin as a paramedic. Their daughter Mitzi lives in Burkburnett and she is an occupational therapist. Their youngest son Ryan is a math teacher and coach at Carthage High School. The Marions enjoy spending time with their grandchildren.

When asked to share their secret for a successful marriage, Mr. Marion said, “We have learned that marriage is a process of giving and taking as well as listening to each other.” One can easily see how this philosophy about their married life spills over to their business life.
