Support Needed for Our Hometown Hero, Dustin Heard

Hello, Olney!

We’re in a hard push from now until year’s end to bring Dustin Heard home from the Atlanta federal prison where he is unlawfully incarcerated, and he needs your help.

As I mentioned in my previous column, attorney John Maher, who obtained a presidential pardon for Lt. Clint Lorance last November, has taken Dustin’s case and will be filing briefs seeking a new trial and a presidential pardon. We are hoping for a presidential pardon before the end of the year. But Dustin also is pursuing all his options through the court system. That means a new investigation centering on the identifying the alleged victims in the Nisour Square shooting. And that costs money.

The U.S. Armed Forces has a biometric database of DNA, photos and fingerprints of suspected and proven insurgents. These are people who made the improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and led or participated in attacks on American forces. If any of the people in the database matches the U.S . government’s list of those wounded or killed in the Nisour Square attack, this information would be grounds for a new trial, or possibly an acquittal.

John served two tours in Afghanistan and is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army’s Individual Ready Reserves. His legal career includes stints in the Army’s Judge Advocate General Corps and the U.S.Department of Justice. John’s knowledge of both the pardon process and military intelligence make us confident that he will give Dustin the best chance at freedom.

Please help the Heard family raise the funds for this new investigation with a donation. Please make your check out to:
