Stewart’s moves entrance during window replacement

Stewart’s Food Store customers will need to use a temporary entrance for the next 30 to 60 days while crews replace the store’s front window, General Manager Jason Pack announced this week.

Beginning immediately, customers should enter and exit through the gray double doors facing Avenue O. The front of the building will be enclosed with a chain-link fence while contractors remove the temporary wall and install the long-awaited replacement glass, Mr. Pack said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The work marks the final stage of repairs following a Jan. 28 accident in which a pickup truck crashed through the front of the grocery store.

The truck, driven by Johnny Moore, plowed through a brick planter and stack of firewood before smashing through the front window and coming to rest inside the store near the bakery display. No one was injured, but the crash forced the store to close while employees cleaned up broken glass and secured the building.

Since then, customers have entered through the main doors beside the boarded-up window while the store awaited delivery of custom replacement windows.

Mr. Pack said the installation process is expected to take between one and two months and asked customers for their patience during construction.
