Stacey Rogers closes final meeting
County Commissioner Stacey Rogers adjourned his last Commissioners Court meeting on Dec. 9, closing out 16 years representing Precinct 3.
Mr. Rogers will hand over the position to Alan Craig, who won the Republican primary and was unopposed in the Nov. 5 general election, on Dec. 31.
Mr. Rogers announced in September that he would not seek a fifth term. “As the only true conservative Republican on the Commissioners Court, I have decided not to continue as your Commissioner for Precinct 3,” he said in a statement.
“My road and bridge budgets have always reflected restraints on spending for needs versus wants. Most departments in this county government have failed to do so. Keeping taxes low, smaller government and limiting risks on the County are priorities for me,” he said, adding that those priorities “are being compromised by the current members of Commissioners Court.”
He also said he planned to prioritize his family and “other interests” after retiring. He said Mr. Craig “will need to be available all days, and work alongside the road and bridge employees on a daily basis.”
The Commissioners wished Mr. Rogers well and the they and the County staff served donuts after the meeting to celebrate his tenure and send him off to his next chapter.
