Spirit of Texas Ranch opens

Greg and Anneta Buenger (pronounced “binger”) came to Young County in May 2016 from the small town of Industry in Austin County, located approximately 70 miles west of Houston.   They purchased a beautiful piece of property to the northeast of the intersections of FM 926 and Bishop Road 9 miles northwest of Newcastle, now known as Spirit of Texas Ranch, their new home.

Anneta (pronounced “Anita”) is originally from Grand Saline in northeast Texas.   She is retired from a career in education, where she wore many hats.   She majored in history and political science at East Texas State University – now Texas A&M at Commerce – where she also acquired a Master of Education degree.   Anneta served at every level in education, from classroom teacher to superintendent.   She also spent time at the Region XI Education Service Center in Ft. Worth as a curriculum training specialist, as well as serving as a national training specialist on behalf of the U.S. department of education.

Greg is a native of Industry, Texas.   He has a degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University and has enjoyed a very diverse career as a veterinarian.   He owned a solo, mixed practice in Industry for many years.   After that practice was sold, Greg worked in and managed several other practices throughout the years.   He has extensive experience in large and small animal medicine and surgery and emergency medicine.   His keen interest and specialty were in reproduction in cattle and horses.   He also managed his family’s small cattle operation, which specialized in club calves and top-quality bulls and replacement females.

The Buengers have always been active in their church and community.   Anneta currently serves on the Olney Hamilton Hospital Board and Greg is on the Young County Farm Bureau Board.   They are members of the Newcastle First United Methodist Church where they have both found active roles.   Greg and Anneta have six grown children – three each, like the Brady Bunch – and eight grandchildren.

Spirit of Texas Ranch is primarily a cattle operation that specializes in club calves and bulls,  and offers a few replacement heifers.   Since their operation is small, they focus on producing the highest quality animals possible.   The Buengers stated, “We use artificial insemination extensively to improve our herd continually.   We want our customers to be completely satisfied with every animal purchased from us.”

“Our biggest joy is spending time at this beautiful ranch.   We are blessed to be able to enjoy the amazing views and pure splendor of this place.   Our children and grandchildren love to spend time here, and we love for them to be here.   They love to fish and hunt and just hang out.   We have a special place in our heart for young people.   We are big supporters of 4-H and FFA, and we love it when youth groups and families come to the ranch.   We have hosted judging teams, seminars, school groups and others and always welcome more.   Our gate is always open, and we always welcome visitors,” said Greg and Anneta.
