Shooting at That Place

Approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, a random act of violence occurred at “That Place,” a barbecue restaurant located in the small community of Olney. Three Olney Police officers were targeted while eating breakfast.

An officer explained that after they heard breaking glass, he noticed what appeared to be a hole through the window in the front of the building. He said the hole seemed to be made by a discharged firearm.

The Olney Police officers further explained they had to think quickly on their feet to usher the workers to the back of the restaurant to take cover in case the shooting continued.

Although the employees and owners were shaken, there were no reported injuries.

The case has been turned over to the Young County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. The Young County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement:

“April 9, 2019, approximatly7:23 a.m. a call came into Young County Dispatch by an Olney PD officer reporting shots fired at a local Olney cafe. Five Young County Sherriff units and four TXDPS units responded. It was stated that three Olney PD officers and four café employees were inside when a gunshot was heard, and officers felt glass. Upon immediate investigation, one bullet hole was discovered, and no individuals were harmed. Young County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation, not ruling any possibilities out, and seeking information from anyone that may know, please call 940-549-1555.”
