Senior Cub Center’s Annual SOUPer Bowl Attracts Large Crowd

On Feb. 13, the Young County Cub Center hosted their annual fundraiser, Souper Bowl. The event is a long-standing popular event for Olney’s Senior Center and is held each year during Super Bowl Sunday.

James Howard, a traveling musician, approached the Cub Center, volunteering his services for the charitable event. Angela Lockard, Director of the Cub Center, was happy to accept Howard’s offer to play during the event.

The Cub Center served stew, cornbread, cobbler and a drink for $7. Lockard said all proceeds go to help support the many programs offered by the Cub Center. In addition, there were plenty of volunteers on hand from the House of Mercy to help cook and serve the food at the event. The House of Mercy is another nonprofit located in Olney, a Christian-based service offering help to those in need of drug counseling and other services, including a haven for families struggling financially.

The Cub Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. The Center offers meals served inside the Center and delivered as well. The Cub Center is a friendly meeting place where the community can gather to build puzzles, play bingo, have lunch, and generally socialize during the week. Bingo is on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For more information, please call 940-564-2782, visit the Cub Center Facebook page at OlneyCubCenter or visit the Center at 302 South Ave. B.
