The Riches of

The Riches of God’s Love

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!”

Romans 11:33 NASBS

Saints of God, my heart’s desire and prayer to God is that our hearts would never become hardened to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will never forget each day to meditate upon the saving grace of Jesus Christ that God bestowed upon us when he awakened us to see the beauty of Him hanging on the cross. To those who truly trust Christ for our salvation, I know this would never be intentional. But if you’re like me, we live in such a fast-paced culture, where the sun has often already set before we’ve completed the task at hand. Not only that, but even after the evening is drawing to a close, we neglect to reflect upon God’s mercy granted to us in Jesus Christ. What a tragedy it is when time becomes the restraint that keeps God’s children from meditating upon the gracious love He has given to us in the death and resurrection of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

As we take a moment to consider the passage above, we must first understand that Paul had just penned, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, what is regarded throughout church history, the most incredible 11 chapters about God’s salvation that is only found in Jesus Christ. In these chapters, he taught the Church of Rome about the doctrine of God’s wrath, how everyone is confined under it with no hope apart from a divine miracle, and this divine miracle is only found in Jesus Christ, Who gave His life as a ransom for all who would come to Him in faith and repentance. Furthermore, he described to the young church saving faith by using the life of Abraham, how he was a man perishing in his sin, and God effectually called him from a life of pagan worship to trust in him. Then he instructed them in the Holy Spirit, teaching them that after Jesus died and was raised from the dead that He ascended into heaven, sending His Spirit to dwell in those who were being saved. And considering all this, God’s plan to rescue His children from sin was resolved in His infinite wisdom before the foundations of the world were ever laid.

So, it is here that Paul reflects upon his conversion and cries out in an anthem of praise, “Oh, the depth of the riches both wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” Paul looks back into his life and sees that he was a murderer, an adulterer by heart, a violent aggressor toward the church, a man bound under the rigor of religious ceremonies, one who sought to be justified by his merit and was an enemy of God. Paul understood that apart from God’s grace, he would have been eternally lost. So, my friends in Christ, take some time and reflect upon your conversion and see the goodness of God that led you to salvation. Remember, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor liars, nor thieves, nor murderers, nor any sinner, nor any church members who are trusting in religious ceremonies will enter the kingdom of heaven, and such were some of you. Still, you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. May God’s grace bring you to cry out like Paul, “Oh, the depth of the riches both wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!”
