Rescued from trials
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.” Psalm 50:15 NASBS
Dear Christian, are you in a day of peril? Have the storms of this life darkened the eyes of your heart to behold God’s love for you? Do the pressures of this life have you so encapsulated that you feel you never escape? If so beloved, then I beseech you to look yonder to Calvary and gaze upon the crucified Savior, for there is no greater love for you than this. My friend, the simple fact that I call you Christian and that the innermost being of your soul cries out “amen” is hope itself. This will open the prison door of your mind and set you free. You see, merely saying I am a Christian shows no proof of truly being saved, but could simply be an outward form of religion manifesting itself in your life. This man has no true fear of God’s law and will be found guilty at the bar of justice when the books will be laid open and all things brought into the light. But the one who truly cries out to God when the cross is brought to his remembrance, who is under the influence of grace, is the one who is anchored to Christ. He is crying out, “Though he slays me, yet will I trust in Him.” This becomes the inward evidence to your heart that you are a child of God, one who has divine life living in the soul, an heir of heaven who has been sealed by the Holy Spirit. Christian, do not be mistaken; the greatest miracle is that you truly believe in the Lord Jesus as the Savior of your soul. This is not a natural response to those who are lost. But for the Christian, no matter what you are going through you can’t escape the fact that Christ died for you. The Holy Ghost testifies to you that you belong to God and that no one can tear you from His hands. As one of the puritans prayed, so let it be ours, “O Lord, forever will thy free forgiveness live that was gained on the mount of blood. In the midst of a world of pain, it is a subject for praise in every place, a song on earth, an anthem in heaven, its love and virtue knowing no end. I have a longing for the world above where multitudes sing the great song, for my soul was never created to love the dust of earth. Though here my spiritual state is frail and poor, I shall go on singing Calvary’s anthem.” Do not forget that you are clothed with His righteousness, washed in His blood, and forgiven from all sins. So, just as the scripture says to those who belong to God, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.” It is then you can look death in the eye without fear, but as a friend who will one day usher you to heaven where you shall see the scars of Him Who bled for you on Calvary.
