The Refuge Marks 10 Years of Serving Olney Families With Oct. 11 Party
The Refuge, Olney’s Christian-based community center, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 11, with a morning of family fun honoring a decade of service to children and families. From 10 a.m. to noon, co-directors Rodney and Kristy Nantz and their staff and volunteers will welcome children and parents for a celebration featuring a bounce house, face painting, snacks and tours.
Since opening its doors in 2015, The Refuge has become a cornerstone of community life. Funded by grants and private donations, the center offers a free after-school program, a summer feeding program for children, a summer camp with arts, science, and cooking classes, free adult fitness programs, and a workout gym.
It also provides space and support for local churches and community events.
“The Refuge was born in the hearts of those within our community who desired above all to see God glorified. Their vision was to create a place open to every student — and their families — where they could hear the life-changing words of Jesus Christ,” said Mr. Nantz. That vision has expanded far beyond its beginnings.
Today, The Refuge is woven into almost every aspect of Olney life. It hosts 5th Quarter parties for teens after home games—including last weekend’s Cubs homecoming win over the Crosbyton Chiefs—and provides a safe, uplifting environment for youth to gather.
As The Refuge celebrates its 10th year, its mission remains the same: to teach the Gospel (as presented in the Holy Bible), strengthen the community, support local churches, and strengthen families.
