Pool debut comes closer

The City and Keep Olney Beautiful were waiting on the diving board and slide to set a date for the opening of Olney’s new swimming pool – possibly as early as July 4 weekend, KOB President Kyle Turner said.

The City hopes to have the pool open on July 4 weekend and to have a “splash day” on July 6 - free admission for the community – on July 6, City Administrator Simon Dwyer said. After that, the cost of admission will be $1 for children ages 9 and under, $2 for children ages 10-17 years old, and $3 for people ages 18 and up, Mr. Dwyer said.

A crew from Absolute Pools by Dave of Wichita Falls filled the pool with water for the first time last week, but had not started treating the water, Mr. Turner said.

The City’s Public Works crews were putting together the pool furniture and the lifeguards were getting certified this week, Mr. Dwyer said.

The new pool is about two-thirds the size of the 1950s pool that was closed two years ago after city crews discovered a sinkhole beneath it.
