POOHS competes at Area UIL contest
The Pride of Olney High School marching band competed in the UIL Area B marching band competition held in Mineral Wells, Texas on Nov. 2, placing fourth in the prelims and fifth in the finals. In fact, the band had not advanced to the finals since the fall of 2019.
“That was the best an Olney band has done in a while and although I was sad about us not going to state, us placing fifth was a major improvement to previous years,” junior drum major Sawyer Edgington said.
“Our progress was huge,” Edgington said. “I was unsure if the show could make it to Area at the start of the year, but everyone came together and got the job done.”
Though the band did not advance to the state competition, they now prepare for the concert season and make further achievements. The band is thankful for the town of Olney’s unwavering support throughout the season.
“Our band next year, if we work as hard as we did the last few weeks of this season, will have a good shot at state,” Edgington said.
