Perry Foundation awards grant to KOB

The Perry Foundation awarded a grant to Keep Olney Beautiful/Olney Recreation Association (ORA) April 28. Perry Foundation Board President Justin Piegat and Board Member DJ Meschkat presented the check to Mayor Rue Rogers on behalf of Keep Olney Beautiful and ORA Board President Landon Rowe. The grant funds will assist with the $125,000 sprinkler system that is one of many improvements at Olney Country Club. The new system includes a new mainline with more than 500 sprinkler heads giving access to every tee box, including fairways and greens.

“We can’t express how thankful we are for what the Perry Foundation has done for the golf course. We are so excited to bring a new watering system to the course and watch its transformation. The money we received through the Foundation will help tremendously. We look forward to our youth getting to grow up and learn the game on a course with grass, and also provide a course to the members and public that we can be proud of,” said Rowe.

Olney Recreation Association (ORA) was established in 1960 to ensure the care and upkeep of a public recreational facility and provide services such as golf tournaments and golf lessons to the community. The board of directors comprises seven members: Ryan Cawthon, Tyler Whitsitt, Callen Pittman, Landon Rowe (President), Frankie Bailey, Dusty McElroy (Vice President), and Dirk Barrington.

ORA is currently raffling off a golf cart that is a 2021 TXT Freedom that is fully loaded with premium seats. You may purchase tickets for $100 from any board member. Ticket sales will continue until all 200 tickets are sold, no later than Oct. 30. They are accepting payments through Venmo: Landon-RoweSOA or Paypal: OlneyCC@yahoo.com.

Golf tournaments will help with some of the costs. The board is soliciting public support specifically for the sprinkler system and other future improvements. Contact Landon Rowe to see how you can help ORA meet its fundraising goal. Meanwhile, consider participating in the upcoming tournaments at Olney Country Club listed on the community calendar. Your participation will make a huge difference.
