Perry’s Foundation awards matching grant to Newcastle High School

On Sept. 20, Kim Forbus was presented a grant of $4,000 by Justin Piegat, board president of Perry’s Foundation. This grant will go toward funds for the theatre program and more specifically the lighting system. The Newcastle high school auditorium has had the same system for more than eight years now and according to Forbus, it was definitely time for a change.

“We are going to do a wireless system that is going to relay from the lights back to the board, and it also buys the console,”Forbus said of the funds. She went on to say that she has been wanting an upgrade to LED lighting for the past several months and she is so excited about how this will potentially impact the many ways of using the auditorium, as well as for the One Act Play competition. “We are going to be able to play with those color washes and play with some different lighting that we weren’t quite able to get with the system that we have had,” Forbus said. She talked about how the upgrades will prepare her students much better for the competitions and will be very exciting for the students who are in charge of the lighting.

Newcastle has advanced several rounds into the UIL One Act Play competition for quite a few years now, and this will only enhance their ability to perform. The new lighting system is set to go into effect at some point around the beginning of November.
