OPD Warns of Lottery Ticket Fraud
An Oklahoma man and a possible accomplice used stolen debit cards to purchase more than $75,000 worth of lottery tickets at gas stations across North Texas, including more than $8,000 spent at Olney- area locations, Olney Police Detective Autumn Thames said this week.
Todd C. Henry of Oklahoma City was captured on surveillance footage at All-Star Fuel, located at 311 E. Main St. in Olney, driving a black 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with Oklahoma license plate PUP790.
Detective Thames said Mr.. Henry used the stolen debit cards—which he may have purchased through the dark web—to buy thousands of dollars in lottery tickets at All-Star Fuel and the Shell gas station at 402 E. Main St. in Olney.
He also made similar purchases at gas stations in Eastland, Brackenridge, Seymour, and Megargel, she said.
Olney Police were first alerted to the suspicious transactions on Jan. 13, and quickly identified Mr. Henry as a suspect. He was found to have visited more than 11 area stores, Detective Thames said.
Five law enforcement agencies are now involved in tracking down Mr. Henry and a second suspect. The second man is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, with a dark beard, who also allegedly purchased large amounts of lottery tickets using stolen debit cards.
Detective Thames said both suspects used debit cards linked to accounts at the same Australian bank, which authorities believe may have been compromised or hacked.
The thefts occurred between December and January, and four felony warrants have now been issued for Mr. Henry’s arrest in Olney, with additional charges pending in other jurisdictions. Public records show that Mr. Henry has several prior theft-related arrests in Oklahoma.
Anyone who spots Mr. Henry, his vehicle, or the second suspect is urged to contact the Olney Police Department immediately.
