Olney Woman Arrested In Sexual Assault on Minor
A 20-year-old Olney woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child following an investigation by the Olney Police Department into allegations of sexual contact between an adult and a 13-year-old child.
Alexa Villapando was taken into custody in Olney on Tuesday after police obtained a warrant based on evidence gathered during the investigation. The case began when the department received a tip alleging that an adult female was involved in a sexual relationship with a minor.
“We investigated and found evidence that this was happening,” said Interim Police Chief Autumn Thames. “We take crimes against children very seriously.”
Ms. Villapando was booked into the Young County Jail and faces a first-degree felony charge. If convicted, she could face between 5 and 99 years in prison. She is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond, jail records show.
Police are also conducting a forensic examination of her cell phone as part of the ongoing investigation.
Chief Thames emphasized that the incident appears to be an isolated event but said it rose to a first degree felony because the victim was under 14 years of age.
She urged anyone who has experienced abuse—no matter how long ago—to come forward.
“Victims of sexual abuse are always welcome to report it, even years later,” she said. “Some cases may fall outside the statute of limitations, but others do not. We will always investigate.”
Resources are available locally for victims of sexual abuse, including Virginia’s House in Graham and First Step in Wichita Falls. Both organizations provide a wide range of support services, from crisis counseling and medical advocacy to help navigating the criminal justice system.
“These centers are often the first step for someone who needs help,” Thames said. “They offer a safe place for victims to speak up and begin healing.”
