Olney Volunteer Fire Dept. hosts banquet

The Olney Volunteer Fire Department [OVFD] hosted their annual banquet Feb. 22. It was a night that included great food, great friends, family and the brave firemen who keep this community safe.

The dinner included chicken fired steak, beans, mashed potatoes, homemade biscuits and peach cobbler.

Door prizes were donated by local business and community members including: 3-T Meats, Berend Brothers, Big Luvs BBQ, Brazos Communications, Chucks Quick Change, Dairy Queen, Dos Leones, Everyday Farm Girl, NAPA, Olney Floral, Olney Fuel, Olney Hardware, Olney Interbank, Rebel Soul Mercantile, Roger’s drilling, Stewarts Grocery Store and Tastefully Simple by Lori Cox.

Firefighter of the Year was awarded to John Schnider, and special presentations were awarded to retiring Firemen Ted Scobee and Jerry Don Riggins.

The Master of Ceremony was Jeff Harvey. Toward the end of the evening Mathew Ickert swore in the 2024 OVFD members and concluded the evening with a closing benediction.

Special thanks was given to Wild Bill, the owner of Chuckwagon, for cooking a delicious dinner.
