Olney police stopped a woman on State Highway 79 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on July 15 near midnight and discovered she had a three-year-old child in the car with him. Crystal Mclemore was taken into custody on suspicion of DWI and child endangerment, a state jail felony, Chief Birbeck said. The child was returned to her family, he said.
Olney man busted for allegedly selling meth Police arrested an Olney man for allegedly selling methamphetamine out of a home in the 200 block of North Avenue M last week, Chief Birbeck said. Police searched the premises occupied by 44-year-old Miguel Garcia after receiving a disturbance call from observers who believed he was impaired, Chief Birbeck said. He was arrested for the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance of more than one gram but less than four grams, he said. Mr. Garcia also “had all the equipment [for selling drugs] – scales, money, drug paraphernalia and bags with different denominations of cost,” he said.
3 arrested in major drug bust on Ave. C Olney Police arrested three men at a home on South Avenue C after a call for possible health and safety code violations turned into a major drug bust, Chief Birbeck said.
The officers presented a warrant to search 613 South Ave. C on July 19 following citizen complaints that the occupants did not have electricity service, were dumping human waste on the property and burned trash in the backyard in violation of the County burn ban, he said.
While interviewing Keith Allen Reeves, 40, and his father, Berry Keith Reeves, 63, police learned that a third suspect, Jedediah Bond, 40, was asleep in a bedroom, he said. Police obtained a warrant within the hour to search the premises after seeing drug paraphernalia inside the home, Chief Birbeck said.
A subsequent search of the house yielded pills, scales and other items indicative of narcotics sales, and a search of a recreational vehicle on the property turned up 13 grams of methamphetamine that was packaged for sale and distribution, he said.
The three men were arrested on charges of manufacturing and distributing drugs, a felony that carries a sentence of 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a $10,000 fine, Chief Birbeck said.
Police are seeking a fourth person of interest in the case, he said.
“We know that these things are going on but sometimes it takes time to develop a case,” he said of the OPD’s drug interdiction efforts. “We don’t want the community to think we are turning a blind eye to this but we don’t want to lose a case because we are not following correct police procedures.”
